Shangrila is situated at Yunnan borders Sichuan and Tibet,where has the highest altitude in Yunnan. Shangrila is a tranquil paradise. Shangrila,it means “land of good luck” in Tibetan word.
According to the legend, Shangrila is a fictional place described in a novel Lost Horizon. In this book, the author James Hilton describes Shangri-La as a mystical, harmonious valley, which isolated from the outside world. Gradually, Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise, and particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia. In the novel, the people are almost immortal there, and their living years beyond the normal year. In those novels, Shangrila was a hidden paradise whose inhabitants lived for centuries. Today it becomes a world-known scenery to tourists all round the world.
The town is split between Tibetan and Han Chinese residents,but most are Tibetans. Shangrila has a wonderful and fantastic landscape. The vast fertile plateau meadow, boundless forests, and snow mountains are widely scattered everywhere. Beside, you can see yak and flock of sheep everywhere. Tibetan horses are available for hire outside of town.
