Nathula Pass Border Was Opened for Indian Pilgrims to Tibet
Nathu la pass is the border between Tibet and India which is located South-East of Himalayan range, with alleviation of 4,545m from the sea level, it is 56km from the Gangtok of Sikkim in India and from the Tibet side it reaches the Yadong county in Shigatse prefecture.
The border was main trading road between Tibet and India prior to 1962 and later it was closed for few decades, then gradually it was opened for trading purpose at some level, in Sept last year, Chinese president Xi Jinping had visited India and met with India’s Prime Minister Nerendra Modi and others which resulted the reopening the Nathu la pass for Indian pilgrims coming to Tibet, the opening of the Nathula pass for Indian pilgrim is a great sign of friendship between the two most populated nation in the world.
Nathula pass was opened on the June 22nd, it received the first Indian pilgrim group of 43 people crossed the border and headed their pilgrimage tour to Mt.Kailash and Lake Manasarovar in the far western Tibet, both Mt.Kailash and Lake Manasarovar are considered as a holy place for the Hindu god Shiva, so every year there are thousands of Indian pilgrims coming to Tibet to visit these holy places, but they all have to come through Nepal not from the Indian border. This year the border from Nepal was closed for tourist due the recent deadly earthquake in Nepal on April 25th, 2015, so that make it impossible for Indians to achieve their holy pilgrim in their usual way, so the opening of the Nathula pass was not only an eye opening spiritual route for the Indian pilgrims but also make it more convenient and cheaper to travel into Tibet.
