Khampa Cultural Festival

The Cultural Art Festival held every four years in different Tibetan city. For those Tibetans in Tibet Autonomous Region, Sichuan, Qinghai, and Yunnan provinces, they consider the Khampa Art Festival as a grand event. These areas have some common profound cultural background and same ethnic features, including information about histories, culture, art and music. In order to strength their culture communication and economic intercourse, governments at levels have laid much emphasis on the inheritance, protection and development of Tibetan culture. So the leaders of these four areas decide to hold The Khampa Art Festival together in 1995.

The event is held every four years, and there are already four events until now. The first places are, in order, Yushu, Shangri-La, Qamdo, Kangding, Yushu, and Shangri-la.
Every time when the event kicked off, the most attractive part is religious dances. The lamas will dress in splendid attire for this festival. They jump up and down, and they wave their hands to the audience, and everyone could feel their great passion in their performance. Besides, there are other activities, such as horse racing, Tibetan dress show, and Tibetan song-and-dance performances, and so on.
The Cultural Art Festival is a good platform for the communication of politics, economy, and culture in these four areas. And people will pay more emphasis on the inheritance, protection, and development of Tibetan culture. Thanks to these efforts, Tibetan culture has prospered and developed unprecedented.
