Tibetan Music Legend Dubey Passes Away
If there is something unique and beautiful about Tibetan culture and traditions, a larger portion of the effort would be of Tibetan music. Though our music tradition has a fashion of Indian, Chinese and some other styles, it has blended and reformed into a newer and more beautiful style through the log of history. There have been legends that kept up the tradition and filled their listeners’ hearts with the joy of sweetness and melodies, one of them was Dubey. A news of Dubey taking severe illness and checking into a hospital went viral over social networks about a month before his death, the news prompted prayers from Tibetans all around the world for his soon get-well. But Dubey, 49, passed away on February 27,2016 after a lengthy treatment at a hospital in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The singer succumbed to liver problems at around 10:30 p.m. and his family and friends reportedly requested that the remains to be transported to Nyima Lhadang monastery for the last rites. According to a video circulating in the social media, hundreds people are seen surrounding the carriage of his remains paying their last respect and love to the artiste, who was called the Cuckoo of the Snow land. The artiste from Amdo, northeastern Tibet, was born in 1968, praised for his very sweet and soft voice as a child, later admitted to Machu Musical School, he broke into limelight in the 1980s and was one of the finest students of Palgon, another great contemporary musician. Dubey was one of the foremost contemporary Tibetan musicians. He has introduced and popularized mandolin in Tibetan music, he recorded thousands of songs, and all of his works are praised for the depth of their meaning and the ear melting melodies.
