Tibetan people always eat Guthuk before Losar, 29th of the 12th Tibetan month, two days before Tibetan New Year. It is an important tradition of making “Guthuk” for Tibetan people. Before they eat Guthuk soup, Tibetans will use some wet paste ball to rubs some parts of his body, this means all the sufferings, pains and diseases will go away.
Guthuk tastes a little like the Thukpa, which made with barley. Just like one soup with dumplings. The ingredients of the Guthuk consist of all kinds of foodstuffs, mostly with night barley flakes, peas, dough ball soup, and radish and so on. Tibetan People sometimes choose some symbolic things such as coins, and stuff them into the wheat paste balls to symbolize luck. Some who eat the things hide in the dough ball symbolize he is the luck dog. The stuffed paste balls and the dough balls are cooked together in a pottery pot into delicious soup. This is a way of starting the new year in a peaceful and auspicious way.
In some larger Tibetan towns and cities, many restaurants now serve this kind food, and it as popular as fried yak and chips in many western countries.
