History of Gyantse Dzong

Gyantse Dzong also is known as Gyantse Old Castle, is a famous landmark in Gyantse County, which is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved castles in Tibet. It stands high above Gyantse City on a huge spur of grey-brown rock. The Gyantse Dzong was intended for the defense against the Nepalese and Indian invasions. Gyantse Dzong is a great place to learn about a heroic history of Tibet history – rise and decline of Gyantse, fight against the invasion of British armies.

Featured Sites in Gyantze Dzong

  Jump Off Cliff is the most famous site in Gyantse. This sign is not mean to suggest you jump off the cliff. It’s marking the site at night of May 1904, during the night brave Tibetan defenders once jumped to their glorious death rather than get captured by the British invading army from India. Tibetan people are constant in the face of death. Now also you will notice that the Monument to the People’s Heroes stands sharp against the blue sky.
