The derivation of the most important meditation theory— Middle Path
There must be lots of Tibet travel tips online, but when you are searching for Tibet travel information, you probably want to know more ancient stories, sources of Tibetan culture of this holy city. Then the meditation theory is among the most important knowledge of this nation.
In 500 B.C., the Buddha Guatama, Buddha Siddhartha or Buddha Shakyamuni, who was the founder of Buddhism was born as a prince of a Kingdom, which is presently known as Lumbini, located in the border of India and Nepal. He left his family to find the way to get enlightenment for all the sentient beings. He went to some north-west of India where there is a place called Bodh-Gaya. Along the way he met some great scholars and then they started to practice the meditation. Then Buddha Shakyamuni kept doing his meditation under the Buddha Tree with six great scholars for six years. After long meditation under that Buddha Tree for six years, he found a very unique logic which is called the Middle Path.
During that time, while the Buddha was meditating under that Buddha Tree, in front of the Buddha Tree, there was a river and in that river there was a boat. In that boat, a teacher was teaching Indian guitar called the Sithar to his student. While the teacher was teaching the Sithar to his student, he said, “if you tune the strings loosely then you won’t get the sound and if you tune the strings very tied then the string will break down. Better be balance so that you will get the perfect sound.”
The Buddha Guatama heard this statement while he was meditating under the Buddha Tree. After that the Buddha realized that the meditation was the right path to awakening, even extreme asceticism didn’t work. So through the Buddhists, the Middle Path was found. The Middle path is the simple understanding of “the path of moderation away from the extremes of self-indulgence and self-mortification”.
