Overview
We extend the way to the west by driving over the friendship highway, cross the lofty Gampa la pass(4750m) through a number of switchbacks and surmount the pass with heaps of prayer flags flapping in the breeze. From the ridge, it offers a stunning view of the sprawling Yamdrok Lake down in the valley and snowcapped mountains on the horizon.
Winding down from the pass toward the lake shore of Yamdrok Lake and continues driving along the lake and enjoying the unforgettable vista of its pincer-shaped expanse of turquoise water. Beautiful Palde village offers a great campsite at the lakeside and in the afternoon explore around the village, the local Palde nunnery is beautifully perching on a small ridge among the village houses. In the afternoon explore the village and you may hike up on the adjacent ridge.
Yamdrok Lake is one of the holiest lakes in Tibet. It is revered as a talisman, supporting the life-spirit of the Tibetan nation. It is said that should its water dry Tibet will no longer be habitable. It holds great value among Tibetans and Tibetans offer prayer flags and make pilgrimage to the lake. Camping.
Get up in the morning and join with villagers making an incense offering on a ridge above the nunnery, villagers get up early in the morning and circumambulate the whole village including the nunnery and small prayer wheelhouse next to the main road. They collapse the camp and retrace the road back to Lhasa by traversing the Gampala pass. On your arrival in Lhasa, you have free time to explore the bustling Bakhort with Tibetan pilgrims.
